The Chinese

Important Items:

  • China is bordered by excellent geographic boundaries, including the Gobi Desert and Himalaya Mountains.
  • Philosophers and thinkers were well respected in ancient times. Several are well-known to this day like Confucius and Lao-Tzu.
  • The Chinese were inventors as well: creating gunpowder, spaghetti, and the printing press.

Confucius:

1. Confucius & Confucianism for Kids - made by Don and Lin Donn. A great site made for kids. 

2. Confucius - a Reading Lesson for Kid - a YouTube video made by MrDowling.com, a credible publisher who creates websites for grades 5-8.

3. Confucianism - World History - a short biography of Confucius and his main teachings created by KidsKnowIt Network, a publisher for younger grades.

Lao-Tzu (or Laozi):

1. Lao-Tze - Laozi - two different biographies using the same source. 1) hyperhistory, 2) wikipedia... they both use Stanford University as their main source.

2. The Tao of Pooh - A.A. Milne tried to explain Daoism/Taoism using his most famous character, Winnie the Pooh.

3. Taoism - What is Tao? - a very brief, but good introduction to Taoism, one of Lao-Tzu's biggest achievements.
